Friday Family Resources #3

I'm especially excited for what's on tap this week because ...*drum roll*

We are now an affiliate with ChurchSource.com! ChurchSource is an imprint of Zondervan publishing. Through their affiliate program we are able to raise money off purchases you make through Church Source. The best part is it doesn't cost you or the church anything extra to do it! Even best-ter part? We get to pass along exclusive coupon codes to you!

Church Source has a ton of materials, so whether it's small group material, personal study, or a new bible for you or a loved one you can help out the church by purchasing it through our affiliate links.

Why are we signed up as an affiliate? Initially the money raised will go to fund our mission trip this Summer. After that, the money will go to supporting the different ministries of 2nd Reformed.

The first recommended resource is K. Scott Oliphint's Know Why You Believe. One thing that has been asked of me in different ways is "how do I defend what I believe?" Students are growing up in an increasingly secularized culture. Most kids today don't identify as even Atheist, we call them the "Nones." This book is a great little resource for families to explore together as we all seek to know why it is we believe what we believe. Enter the code 2018SAVE10 to get 10% off your entire purchase from now until 1/20.

Next up is an article by Kuyperian Commentary, Teenagers and the Smartphone Beast. The good news, teenagers aren't as sexually active as they used to be in the 90's and 00's. But it's not for the reasons we might think. While we'd like it to be attributed to abstinence education or the church actually teaching a proper sex ethic, it's really just because students are staying their bedrooms all day by themselves because, you guessed it, they are on their smartphones. There's some interesting stats and compelling commentary in the article. I highly recommend it.

Finally, this Sunday I am going to start a new blog series on the Creeds, Catechisms, & Confessions. I'll be following along with the Heidelberg Lord's Days each Sunday. The intent is to provide material for Sabbath worship & devotions as a family. While you can follow along here on the blog, you can also pick up a copy of Our FaithI would also be more than happy to get you a copy.

Blessings!
